Alternative Automobile Fuel Source
Almost all major car companies have jumped right on to the alternative fuel
bandwagon by manufacturing a variety of vehicles designed especially to run on
alternative fuel. They are called, of course, alternative fuel vehicles or AFVs
for short. Some vehicles are strictly designed and built to run on nothing but
alternative fuel while others can run on either gasoline or alternative fuel
making them a hybrid car.
As of 2006, here is a list of some of the alternative fuel or “green” vehicles
manufactured by some of the major car companies:
We tend to think of auto fuel as simple gasoline that you can get at a gas
station on just about every corner, however, there are alternative fuel sources.
Research and technology have found all different kinds of fuel that can power an
automobile as an alternative to gasoline. And many of these alternative
fuels are environmentally friendly as well.
We know that electric cars have been around for centuries. For Example, In
the 1900's, there were more electric cars on the road than gasoline powered
cars. It's a true fact! With new and cheaper ways being developed to
produce gasoline, the gas powered automobile soon became the primary mode of
transport.
The gas shortage of the 1970's prompted researchers to look for an alternative
fuel source to power automobiles. In America today, gas prices have risen
dramatically, such that it is difficult for some people to travel due to the
high price to fill up a car.
Fortunately, technology has allowed us to not only have alternative fuel sources
but alternative fuel automobiles as well. These vehicles run on fuel such
as propane, hydrogen, ethanol, and even vegetable oil! They are environmentally
friendly and have few to no emissions at all so no harmful chemicals are released into the air.
As technology improves and additional methods are found to produce cheaper
gasoline, the automobile industry has wholeheartedly embraced alternative fuel
sources and has begun producing more and more vehicles to meet customer demands.
Right now, there are some great hybrid vehicles that are available on the market
and run on alternative fuel or use gasoline as their main source of power. While not completely “green”, they are a step in the right direction when it comes to making our world a cleaner place and helping to save the environment.
Alternative fuel sources for our automobiles are being developed and perfected every day as companies along with the United States Government strive to help our world as well as our pocketbooks. The development of alternative fuel sources in the automobile industry will continue to be honed to perfection and we could very well be seeing cost less than gasoline. That would be a welcome relief, don’t you think?
